The South Shore District was the heart beat of Port Isabel in the early days. The area was known as the Shrimping Capitol of the World, as more shrimp was caught and processed on the South Shore docks than anywhere else. It is bordered on the south side by the Brownsville Ship Channel and on the west side by the Port Isabel Side Channel.
